The removal of "change layer content" has frustrated me to no end. I used to make very frequent use of that command in creating web graphics. Want to make a gloss highlight that fades from white to transparent? Make the white vector shape first, and then convert it to a white-to-transparent gradient. Now, my only real option is to make the shape and then mask it with a big soft brush to create a feathered edge and transparency. Complete bullshit. The old method was perfect.
