Open Sesam…err iPhone.

A few completely unfounded (arguably bordering on stupid) excuses by salesman Steve. GBs of criticism on the web. A botched attempt at Reality Distortion. Numerous hacks. Dozens of semi-illegal third-party applications. Many bricked iPhones. And, now? Apple’s spectacular realisation that the iPhone won’t glitter forever. It was about time Apple did things right. The industry is not kidding. This is only the beginning…

If the N810 is released with a free SDK it will make the difference. The iPhone is the lost case. When it was first released I was quite positive I’ll buy one. Now I’m quite positive again, I will not buy the iPhone because it takes a hack to write greek, it’s not 3G it will cost too much in Europe and I don’t want third party applications that might brake my phone, nor want to pay for a ringtone.
If the policy doesn’t change any time soon, the iPhone is doomed.

Nokia’s Nxxx devices run linux and are built on top of the Maemo open source application framework. There were always free SDKs for these Nokia Internet communicators. But, did you follow the link atma? The iPhone seems to be getting an SDK soon too. The question is whether it’ll be free or not. That I don’t know, but I’m guessing chances are it will, considering Apple’s desire to dominate in that market too.
