Myspace sans Indie music? Dead.

Heh, if that article is even slightly accurate, I’d be very surprised if Myspace didn’t try to do everything in its power to satisfy indie labels and bands. Without them it stands no chance of surviving. None at all, even if it had all four major music megacorps behind it. The competition is so much better and Myspace is mediocre if not poor an implementation.

Indie is not dear. Actually is far from dead. RCRD LBL is a proof of that

@Titanas: Oh no. Is this your dyslexia at work again? :)
You — clearly — misunderstood the post: It is about *MySpace* depending on *Indie* labels. Without them it loses its main differentiating feature to other social networks (that generally offer a superior experience): indie music. If MySpace manages to diss the independent artists, it’s going to die.

Never ever read your posts again if it’s pass midnight! I totally missed “sans” stupid me

Hehe nevermind. We all make mistakes every once in a while. Independent music is alive and well.

In any case, to get back on-topic: If you are into independent music, check out Spinalonga Records if you haven’t yet. It’s our own, not-for-profit promotion effort for hellenic anglophone rock bands. Spinalonga has been around for about three and a half years, and we already have three compilations (the first of which you can download from the site for free) and a few albums. MySpace has revolutionised the way people explore and discover new music by independent artists in a way neither Garageband.com nor Purevolume.com or any other site did before, by centralising the resources and connecting people together (albeit in an unappealing and badly implemented way). I believe that if MySpace manages to piss the indepedent musicians off it’s doomed. It’s popularity is firmly rooted in independent music and if it loses that I’m sure it’ll very quickly lose more than 60%-70% of its users/traffic.

Have your say.
