Spammed to death.

About a month ago I wrote about the surge in comment spam this site has experienced. Well, it’s still going through the roof. I’m getting more spam everyday. This past few days I’ve received more than 800 spam comments per day. It took several months to cross the 1,000 mark. Last month I was at […]

Is MacHeist worth it?

MacHeist is a bundle of Macintosh applications where 25% of the price paid goes to charity. It consists of 9+1 applications, many of them award winning and pretty well known, that — if bought separately — would cost around $300. The bundle goes for $49. The applications are Delicious Library, NewsFire, FotoMagico, ShapeShifter, DEVONThink Professional, […]

The Rotten MBPs

I’m in London for a few days and I couldn’t avoid paying a visit to the Regent Street Apple Store. I’ve been in the market for a laptop for some time now and while my plan since late last year has been to get a Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro (C2D MBP), as soon as […]

Inconsolata

A few weeks ago I stumbled across Inconsolata, Raph Levien’s monospaced font and it has since become one of my favourites. The font is clearly inspired by Consolas, the new monospaced font designed by Lucas de Groot for Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System. Inconsolata borrows several characteristics of that font, but is longer in height […]

Nikon D40

Nikon seems to have finally gotten the message and has been releasing decent DSLRs for a while now, competing well with the DSLR champion, Canon. The D40, being the latest (and, literally, smallest) low-end DSLR by Nikon, is a weird camera. At $599, its small size and decent feature set, the D40 seems to be a good compromise for young photographers or those entering the DSLR world from the low and mid end of digital compacts. Yet its resolution is relatively low, even compared to mid-range compacts, even though it sports some features not even found on the larger D50. I'm curious to see how it fares on the market.

The SpamMeisters!

It’s now been close to four months since I modified the Akismet plugin to show me the country flag and name for each Spam message received on this blog on the administration pages (using my improved ip2nation database). While it’s been (and was expected to be) a somewhat useless and geeky exercise, it proved that […]

Omnigroup Statistics

Here's a page where you can access the data Omnigroup receives from their Software Update module found in their applications. There's loads of statistics for your viewing pleasure and considering that some of their apps can be found pre-installed in many Macs, well you get the picture. I was impressed to read that Intel has surpassed PowerPC on their customer base in just a few months. Wow!
